Atlantic Fire & Rescue - Samora Machel
Building Safer, Stronger Communities
Atlantic Fire & Rescue hosted a powerful day of community empowerment and collaboration in Samora Machel, Cape Town, where local leaders, residents, and emergency officials came together for a large-scale fire awareness and fire safety training initiative.
The training was attended by over 120 community volunteers, along with representatives from the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Management, Law Enforcement, and Human Settlements departments, as well as Neighbourhood Watches and local councillors. A special thank you was extended to Cllr. Anda Tsodo for his leadership and continued support of fire prevention initiatives in the area.
“We are here in Samora Machel in Cape Town,” said AFR Commander Paul Krüger. “We’ve just finished our fire awareness and fire safety talk, and we will now continue with the practical session on fire extinguishers. We are here with Charmaine from the Neighbourhood Watch, Melissa from the Disaster Management Centre of Cape Town, and the community and community leaders. Atlantic Fire & Rescue would like to hand over 30 fire extinguishers (9kg DCP), 10 first aid kits, and a loudhailer to be used by the community in emergencies. The community has already formed teams that will be spread out across 16 high-risk areas to help protect their neighbourhoods.”
Melissa, representing the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Management Centre, shared her gratitude and appreciation for the initiative: “I would like to say thank you on behalf of Disaster Management and the community. Thank you for your amazing work and your help.
Charmaine, from the Neighbourhood Watch, also expressed heartfelt thanks for the training and donated equipment: “I would like to say thank you to the firefighters coming into Samora. This will be a great help because Samora has lots of fires that take place regularly, and the equipment that they will be giving us will help with the fires that are happening in Samora. Thank you very much.”
Through initiatives like this, Atlantic Fire & Rescue continues to strengthen partnerships with communities and local authorities — ensuring that residents are trained, equipped, and ready to respond in times of emergency.
Empowering our people. Protecting our communities. Building safer, stronger neighbourhoods.
Salute to a great leader, and to everyone who continues to make a difference.
