On 1 October 2025, Atlantic Fire & Rescue continued its mission to empower communities with lifesaving skills and equipment in Nkanini, Khayelitsha.

A total of 40 community volunteers completed training in fire safety, fire awareness, and the optimal use of fire extinguishers, equipping them to act swiftly when fires break out and to prevent small incidents from becoming large-scale disasters.

To support their rapid response efforts, 20 fire extinguishers were issued to the newly trained teams, ensuring critical equipment is available where it is needed most — inside the community.

This initiative strengthens community-based fire response, placing trained responders and lifesaving tools directly in high-risk areas, where access challenges and fast-spreading fires can cost lives and homes within minutes.
