Training to Action: AFR Contain Two Fires in Browns Farm on the Same Day

Two Fires Contained in One Afternoon — Hours After Training in Philippi, Browns Farm

On 25 November 2025, Atlantic Fire & Rescue saw firsthand why community-based training is essential — and why rapid action saves lives.

Just hours after completing a fire awareness and extinguisher training session in Philippi, Browns Farm, our team noticed smoke rising from a nearby field. With homes bordering the area and strong winds posing a serious threat, there was no time to waste.

We hit the sirens, moved in quickly, and deployed our equipment to stop the flames before they could reach the surrounding structures. The fire was contained on the field, preventing what could have become a widespread and destructive incident.

The success of this response reinforced the purpose of our work:

Training in the morning. Action in the afternoon. Protecting our communities — always.

But the day was not over.

Shortly after containing the first blaze, a second fire broke out in the same community. Thanks to the training earlier that day, one of the newly trained community members immediately fetched her fire extinguisher and joined our team on the ground. Together, we were able to contain the second fire before it spread.

Two fires in one day — both contained.

These incidents stand as a powerful reminder:
Prepared communities save lives. Equipped communities prevent disasters. Trained communities act fast.

Atlantic Fire & Rescue remains committed to ensuring that every volunteer, every leader and every resident has the tools and knowledge needed to protect their neighbourhoods.
