Delft Fire Contained Through Brave Community Action — Serious Safety Warnings Issued

A dangerous house fire in The Hague, Delft, on 13 December 2025 was successfully contained thanks to the swift response of community volunteers equipped with fire extinguishers supplied by Atlantic Fire Services (AFS). Their quick action prevented the flames from spreading and saved the neighbouring home from destruction.

The fire was deliberately started when a disgruntled family member poured spirits over a bed and set the house alight, causing the fire to spread rapidly through the structure.

During the emergency response, tragedy struck when a community member — who is also a family member of the homeowner — fell through the burning roof, sustaining serious burn injuries. Atlantic Fire Services extends its heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Despite repeated warnings from community leaders, several young men climbed onto the roof in an attempt to fight the fire. AFS stresses that this action is extremely dangerous and must never be attempted.

Burning roofs can collapse without warning, exposing individuals to severe injury or death. Firefighting from rooftops — especially in informal structures — places lives at unacceptable risk and must be avoided at all times.

This incident powerfully demonstrates both sides of community response:

  • Fire awareness, training, and proper equipment save lives and homes
  • Unsafe actions can result in serious injury or loss of life

Atlantic Fire Services reiterates a critical message to all communities:

Fight fires safely. Follow training. Protect lives first.

Protect lives. Protect communities. Safety first.
