AFS Christmas Day Outreach | Wingfield Refugee Camp

On Christmas DayAtlantic Fire Services (AFS) carried out a heartfelt humanitarian outreach to the Wingfield Refugee Camp, bringing hope, dignity, and practical support to more than 300 people and children living in extremely difficult circumstances.

Families at the camp continue to face harsh living conditions, with limited resources and daily uncertainty. In response, AFS stepped in to ensure that no one was forgotten on Christmas Day. Food donations included meat, vegetables, cooking oil, chakalaka, rice, polony, viennas, tinned fish, Oros, and Nik Naks for the children, making it possible for every family to enjoy a cooked meal and for children to experience a moment of joy on a day meant for hope and togetherness.

Addressing the community, AFS Commander Paul Krüger shared the heart behind the outreach.

“We are at Wingfield Refugee Camp in Cape Town, speaking with the community leaders, the community, and the children,” said AFS Commander Paul Krüger.
“We’ve been very concerned about the people living here. We’ve done previous food outreach, and today, on Christmas Day, we wanted to donate food for the community — especially for the children — so that everyone can at least have a nice meal today. We want you to know that we are thinking about you.”

A community leader expressed deep gratitude, speaking openly about the reality faced by those living at the camp.

“We really appreciate what you bring to us,” said a Community Leader.
“Today is Christmas Day, and we are very happy with what we see. Certain people don’t even care about us, the way we are left here. People don’t care, but we appreciate this man. Thank you very much.”

This outreach reflects AFS’s commitment not only to fire safety and emergency response, but also to human compassion— standing with communities in moments of need and offering practical support when it matters most.

All glory to God, our creator and saviour.
