AFR Mfuleni Training Day 3 | Building Community Fire Readiness

Atlantic Fire & Rescue proudly hosted Training Day 3 in Mfuleni, marking another critical step forward in strengthening community-based fire readiness in a high-risk area.

The training brought together a strong collective of local leadership and volunteers, including the CPF ChairmanExtension 6 Neighbourhood WatchCrime Fighters Neighbourhood WatchItsitsa Primary School staff, and 60 committed community volunteers — all united by one goal: protecting lives, homes, and infrastructure from devastating fires.

The day focused on fire awarenessfire safety, and practical preparedness, equipping community members with the knowledge needed to respond decisively in the crucial first moments of a fire. In areas where homes are built close together and access for fire services can be delayed, these early actions can mean the difference between containment and catastrophe.

To strengthen on-the-ground response capacity, emergency equipment was officially issued to the community teams, including:

  • 31 x 9kg fire extinguishers
  • 15 first aid kits
  • 1 megaphone/siren to assist with rapid alerts and coordinated response during emergencies

This equipment will be strategically deployed across the community, ensuring that trained teams can act quickly while professional fire services are en route.

Training Day 3 reinforced a core principle of Atlantic Fire & Rescue’s mission: empowered communities save lives. When residents are trained, equipped, and organised, fires can be contained early, injuries reduced, and homes protected.

Atlantic Fire & Rescue salutes every volunteer, leader, and organisation that took part. Your commitment strengthens not only Mfuleni, but the broader fight against community fires across Cape Town.

Empowering communities. Strengthening response. Protecting lives and homes.
