Delft Fire & Safety Training Day - Protecting What Matters Most

Atlantic Fire Services (AFS) hosted a focused Fire and Safety Training Day in Delft, reinforcing early fire response in spaces where protection matters most — our children, our communities, and those who care for them.

The session brought together representatives from 16 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and Delft Neighbourhood Watches, following the completion of AFS’s volunteer training programme the previous week. As part of this continued commitment, 20 fire extinguishers were issued to support rapid response in and around schools and community areas.

By equipping those closest to children and vulnerable spaces, AFS is helping to reduce fire risk and strengthen immediate action before fires escalate.

Addressing those in attendance, AFS Commander Paul Krüger thanked the community for their commitment to safety.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to stand for safety,” said AFS Commander Paul Krüger.
“We are in Delft, Cape Town, with representatives from 16 ECD centres as well as the Delft Neighbourhood Watches. We completed our volunteer training programme last week, and today we are handing over fire extinguishers to be used by the ECDs and Neighbourhood Watches in case of fire.”

“I would also like to thank the councillor for this opportunity.”

A community leader expressed appreciation for the practical support and its life-saving potential.

“Paul, thank you so much on behalf of the community,” said a Community Leader.
“We want to thank you for assisting us with the equipment we are receiving in order to save lives in the spaces that we use.”

Through training, equipment, and strong partnerships, Atlantic Fire Services continues to build safer environments for children and communities across Cape Town.

Safeguarding our communities, our children, and our loved ones.
