Fire & Rescue Awareness Training Strengthens Community Preparedness in Khayelitsha
Atlantic Fire & Rescue conducted a crucial Fire and Rescue Awareness Training session at the Khayelitsha SAPS grounds, uniting community structures and volunteers with one clear purpose: to improve fire readiness and empower local first responders.
The training brought together some of the area’s most active community safety groups, including:
• Community Police Forum
• Neighbourhood Watch
• Community in Blue
• Community Leaders
• 50 Community Volunteers
To support rapid, on-the-ground intervention during fire outbreaks, 40 fire extinguishers were issued to community representatives for deployment across high-risk areas.
Working side by side, Atlantic Fire & Rescue and the Khayelitsha community continue to build a safer, more resilient environment for all.
Voices From the Ground: During the session, Commander Paul Krüger addressed attendees, highlighting the purpose of the programme and the importance of local participation.
Commander Paul Krüger: “We are here in Khayelitsha’s South African Police Station, where we just finished our introduction talk on community volunteer firefighting. We will now hand over 45 extinguishers to the community, to the benefit of the community.”
Community Leader: “On this occasion, we are privileged to have Fire Awareness training on how to extinguish fires. Thank you very much. I thank Atlantic Fire and Rescue for assisting our community members so that we are capable of fighting fires that are already hitting our area. We appreciate the 50 fire extinguishers and the support donated to our community.”
Building a Safer Khayelitsha: The training session marks another important step in AFR’s ongoing mission to equip communities with the tools, skills, and confidence needed to respond effectively during fire emergencies.
Atlantic Fire & Rescue salutes the leaders, volunteers, and safety groups who continue to stand united in protecting Khayelitsha.
